Tajikistan’s ‘The Crying of Tanbur’ wins Best Film at Varesh

The 9th Varesh Int'l Film Festival wraps up, naming Tajikistan's ‘The Crying of Tanbur’ as best foreign film.

The Varesh International Film Festival has wrapped up its 9th edition, naming ‘The Crying of Tanbur’ from Tajikistan as the best foreign film.

The winners were announced during a closing ceremony held in the city of Babol in Iran’s northern province of Mazandaran on Friday.

Here is a list of the winners at the festival’s International Competition Common Heritage section:

Best Feature Film: ‘The Crying of Tanbur’ directed by Anisa Sabiri from Tajikistan

Special Jury Prize for best film: 'Takleef: the Day of Duty' directed by Ali Farahani from Iran

Best Animated Film: ‘The Theory of Sunset’ made by Roman Sokolov from Russia

Best Documentary: ‘13 Kilometers’ from Kazakhstan and ‘How Big Is the Galaxy’ from Russia

Best Direction in a Documentary: ‘Where Do We Go’ by Reza Majlesi from Iran

The Varesh International Film Festival aims at strengthening and supporting anthropological films and introducing the common cultural heritage of the Caspian Sea's littoral states. Identifying new talents are also among the main objectives of the festival.

The 9th edition of the festival took place in Babol on April 29-May 3, 2019.
